Brief Description of
Your Tile Project

This final step is very simple but gets overlooked on most tile projects.
Especially in wet areas, it is imperative that all grouts and all natural stones
get sealed to prevent stains and mold growth.  Porcelains and ceramics are
the exception.   Tile can be sealed at anytime, but grout has to be fully
cured which usually takes 72 hours.   These sealers can last from 6 months
to 6 years depending on the area and contact with water.  Showers need to
be sealed every 6 months to 1 year.
All natural stone needs to be sealed.   Enhancer seals the stone but also
deepens the color of the tile leaving it darker than before.  If enhancer is
applied after grouting it will also darken the grout color.  Enhancer can be
applied prior to grouting in order to preserve the color.

Cleaning Tile
Cleaning tile is also an easy process.  There are usually two types of tile
cleaner.  The first is a neutral based cleaner which can handle most stains
and mold.  And the second is an acid based cleaner for heavy-duty stains
that haven't been cleaned for years.  Both cleaners are generally mixed
with water and applied generously.  After five minutes, the area is then
scrubbed to remove the dirt and grime.  Then the area can be dryed and
resealed.
Sealing Granite
Once granite tiles
are sealed they
provide the best
resistance to
bacteria and mold
growth.  This is one
of the many
reasons granite tile
is chosen for
kitchen and
bathroom
countertops.
Bathroom Grout
It is always a good
idea to seal the grout
in your bathroom
because it provides
the best protection
against stains and
allows for the easiest
cleaning.
Enhanced Slate
This slate was
enhanced prior to
grouting which
brought out the
individualism
between each tile
and deepen their
colors.  Once the
grout had cured,
one more coat was
done to seal the
grout.
